Realizing

I was talking to a girl from school yesterday and she made this point.

"The dorm Community is great at SBC...however that Community ends the second you leave."

That point rang so true for me for a couple reasons...

1) My wedding: Out of 60 invited SBC related, I believe no more than 10 showed up...yes some of them told me that they were unable to make it, but so many said yes they were coming and did not show up...

2)Living off Campus: You know I live a 5 minute drive from dorm. yet that 5 minutes might as well be 5 hours.

I can already tell that my community this year is not going to be sbc. It is going to be elsewhere. THis thought hurts to realize but ya.

My thinking and musings for today...

As much as it sucks - and believe me, I'm quite sure it very much does! - I think it's only natural that things change once you're out of dorm. Personally, I feel like the community of SBC is specifically set up to just 'happen' - thus why we're so much encouraged to live on campus! Most of community living at SBC is not intentionally created by the students. We just happen to live, eat, and study together, so of course we're gonna be friends!! But once you leave that environment, it does become something that has to be created more intentionally. Unfortunately, this is not always easy (as I'm sure most of the commuters can attest to!) and thus, some of that community feeling just ends up being lost, but I think this is when you get to find out which relationships will stand the test of time, and which ones were just fun for the time being. I really hope that your most important relationships outlast dorm living. :)
